Foxtel will deliver its pay TV services through Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE platform by the end of the year.
Foxtel via Xbox LIVE will allow users to access to a number of pay TV channels including FOX Sports, Discovery and MTV. Video-on-demand covering television series and movies will also be available.
Only users with a Gold Xbox LIVE membership and a Foxtel by Xbox LIVE subscription can use the service. A one-year Xbox LIVE Gold membership costs $US79.95. Pricing for the specific Foxtel services has yet to be announced.
Microsoft already has agreements with pay TV players, BSkyB, in the UK and CANAL+ in France.
“We will offer Foxtel by Xbox LIVE with various packages and prices and under flexible agreements,” Foxtel chief, Kim Williams, said in a statement.
Microsoft head of entertainment and devices, David McLean, said the vendor was now approaching one million Xbox 360s sold in Australia.
