Cisco and VMware have banded together to build a new datacentre play and partner program.
Partners will be able to access the new acceleration initiative to take co-branded Cisco and VMware datacentre solutions to market. It offers joint Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) and VMware vSphere online solutions training at no cost to partners across the globe.
Additionally, the two vendors are offering a bundled product solution, available by the end of May. This solution comprises the Cisco UCS C250 with VMware vSphere and Cisco Nexus 1000V virtual software switch.
Partners that complete the required training will be able to sell VMware vSphere with no additional VMware certification required.
Other benefits include reimbursement for pre-approved Cisco and VMware virtualisation assessments, access to demo equipment, demand generation and marketing benefits, online demo labs and access to Cisco capital financing. The benefits will be made available to any Cisco datacentre partner, of which there are now over 500 worldwide.
From a Cisco perspective, the program aims to improve its partner network's virtualisation capabilities. Vice-president and global lead for EMC/VMware/Cisco strategic partner organisation, Manjula Talreja, said the program combined the two vendor's offerings in a much more cohesive manner for partners.
"We hope this will open the door for them to get into the virtualisation space," Talreja said. "Previously, it has proven difficult for partners to work with both us and VMware separately. Now it will be quicker for business to go to market by combining our product offerings."
From VMware's perspective, the new program will help broaden its reach into the datacentre market, VMware director, Americas strategic partners, John Eric Schwan, said.
"We feel there's already a strong partner overlap, but Cisco has some additional reach with partners we haven't previously been in touch with,” he said.
The bundled products will be available through Cisco's existing distribution partners.
