Quest Software has launched version 7.1 of its vWorkspace desktop virtualisation management software.
The new release includes the vendor’s EOP Xtream function, which aims to speed WAN performance and integration enhancements for Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services (RDS). According to Quest, EOP Xtream delivers a smoother connection across WAN and Intern/VPN connections.
Additionally, integration with Windows Remote Desktop Connection Broker allows vWorkspace to publish applications from different host platforms. These include Hyper-V-based Remote Desktop Virtualisation Host and Remote Desktop Session Host.
Using Hyper-V in conjunction with Microsoft’s System Center Virtual Machine Manager, vWorkspace automates virtual desktop creation by cloning virtual hard disks. Quest vWorkspace supports Microsoft Hyper-V-based virtual desktops, Remote Desktop Session hosts and physical PCs.
Microsoft general manager of remote desktop virtualisation, Ghandra Shekaran, claimed customers were beginning to understand the business benefits of a desktop virtualisation strategy.
“We are working with Quest to expand the capabilities of Windows Server in an integrated solution for virtual desktop infrastructure,” he said.
The software is available now.
