Symantec has launched the 2011 beta versions of Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security.
Norton 2011 alerts users when applications are significantly impacting their system resources. Its Download Insight 2.0 feature applies Norton’s protection mechanism to every download regardless of the client. Additionally, this system alerts users to the risk involved in each download.
Other tools in the new release include Norton Safe Web for Facebook, which scans Facebook news feeds for malicious URLs, as well as Norton Power Eraser for targeting and removing illegitimate programs and graphics.
Norton Bootable Recovery, which is only available to subscribers, allows users to boot their PCs into a secure state when the system is too infected to properly start. The new software versions also feature Norton Safe Web, which annotates Google, Yahoo! and Bing.com search results with safety and ecommerce ratings.
Vice-president of engineering for Norton products, Jean Meggers, said, customers were looking for value beyond core security.
“The free new tools we’re bringing to market will keep the Norton community safer,” he claimed.
The Norton 2011 beta is available for free public download at: www.norton.com/nis2011beta or www.norton.com/nav2011beta.
