It wasn't a happy Easter for a number of Computer Hardware Australia (CHA) staff after the national notebook distributor retrenched nearly 20 per cent of its staff last week.
CHA's NSW office was hardest hit losing four staff while another two-three staff were culled across the country taking the distributor's head count to around 30 ARN has learned.
CHA managing director Peter Thatcher, confirmed reports that began circling two weeks ago, that the distributor was restructuring its workforce due to an economic downturn in the IT industry.
Thatcher claims the cuts were made in an attempt to streamline the company and reduce its operating expenditure.
"I had to let a few people go last week, but if you look at the industry we're in line with everyone else," Thatcher said.
While he said it was disappointing to lose staff, the cost-cutting measure was necessary to better position the distributor in a difficult market.
