Melbourne-based wholesale Internet provider, ispONE, has hired Stephen Aitken as its wholesale manager.
Aitken previously spent three years at Hanson Technologies as a senior account manager. He also worked at IT reseller, Dolphin Integration, as a business development and account manager after spending four years at Pacific Internet (now Pacnet) as channel program manager.
According to Aitken, his first priority will be to speak to the company’s existing customers to get a feel for their needs.
“Putting new customers on is secondary to getting to know the existing customers,” he said. “Once I get my head around the actual services that are being delivered, I’d like to find out what regional customers want.
“I think there’s a lot of focus on the Eastern seaboard and we’ve got massive communities in places like Shepparton. We need to see what can be done in those sorts of areas and have a look at what kind of wireless mobile broadband is available along with the limitations.”
Aitken also wants to ensure a high quality offering to users.
“If you do have someone [small ISPs] come on board you have to make sure when they offer customers a service they can cover it with our assistance,” he said. “The idea is not to scattergun and get lots of small organisations. The important thing in the initial conversation you have with new customers is that you educate them. It’s not an easy game out there.
Last year, the company signed a wholesale deal with Telstra to offer its customers access to the Telco giant’s ADSL2+ network.
