TPG releases unlimited ADSL2+ broadband

TPG follows AAPT and becomes Australia’s second ISP to offer the service at a lower rate

TPG has become Australia’s second ISP to offer an ADSL2+ plan with unlimited downloads and no throttling.

According to TPG's website, the plan costs $75 per month with a minimum spend of $959.95 over 12 months and a $59.95 setup fee or $1350 over 18 months.

The plan is cheaper than AAPT’s offering, which claimed to be the first of its kind in Australia, and cost $99.95 a month over 24 months with a minimum spend of $2398.

Although the move was lauded by some Net-based companies, analysts warned it could tempt illegal file sharers to swamp the network and burn up excessive amounts of bandwidth downloading content.

TPG’s move comes after a 443 per cent jump in net profits and its purchase of wholesale telco and fibre provider, Pipe Networks, in a $373.09 million deal.
