Simms International has taken its second dip into the consumer power management space by teaming up with US-based Powermat.
A wireless charging device, the Powermat allows users to power up any number of devices wirelessly, from mobile phones, music players, handheld gaming consoles and GPS devices. For homes with multiple consumer electronic devices, Simms is touting the Powermat range as a solution to the increasing number of propriety cords that come with those devices.
Last year, Simms formed a partnership with Powertraveller for its solar-powered charging devices. It and Powermat form a complementary solution –Powermat sitting at home, and Powertraveller as a mobile solution, Simms managing director, Danny Moore said.
However, he expected the Powermat to be an easier product to take to market.
“Powertraveller is a great product, but it needs substantial investment and marketing to work – people have to see it in action to love it,” he said.
“Powermat is a really hot product in the market – in the US, it has already sold over 1 million units since launching last year. It’s the kind of product that can sell in retail, as people can walk up to it on display and immediately see what it does.”
JB Hi-Fi, Myer, Harvey Norman and David Jones have been selected as launch partners for the Powertraveller product line.
