US-based SAN storage vendor, Compellent, has set up shop in Australia as it plans to up the ante on channel engagement.
The vendor’s claim to fame is its patented “fluid data” technology – which automatically tiers an organisation’s storage based on its importance at any given point in time.
Based in Melbourne, the office will initially be staffed by A/NZ managing director, Craig Stockdale and a solutions architect, Steven Madden. The vendor maintains it will remain 100 per cent channel orientated.
“We’re not adopting a distribution strategy because we don’t see the distribution channel adding value to us,” Stockdale said. “We’re also going for quality rather than quantity approach to our channel network, and we’re looking to appoint value-added resellers and integrators that will give us an optimal geographic coverage.”
Compellent had already traded in Australia through its three reseller and integrator partners – XSI Data Solutions, Regal IT and Sententia. The vendor’s growth plans included setting up a direct presence. It will also providing training for partners.
Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth are the initial key cities for Compellent, Stockdale said. Adelaide and Tasmania are also of interest, but to a lesser extent.
“We decided it was time to take the business to the next step, so the company needed to take a greater focus in the market,” Stockdale said.
