LookSmart, Excite seek consolation together

LookSmart and Excite@Home, two of the strongest players in the Web search market have signed a three-year agreement to consolidate distribution, sales, content and marketing forces.

While online advertising takes a beating, both parties are hoping the partnership will create new revenue streams as well as providing a platform to market each other's products and services.

The deal provides a significant increase in distribution for the LookSmart Web directory, advertising and listing products. Advertisers messages will now reach Excite's one million users adding to LookSmart's current network reach of 2.8 million, or 62 per cent of Australian Internet users.

The consolidation with Excite's search index will give LookSmart a massive 45 per cent share in the local search market.

Meanwhile, Excite@Home gains access to LookSmart's 50-strong partner network of Australia's leading portals and ISPs to market its content and services.

Excite@Home's site will add to LookSmart's reseller network for its Express Submit directory submission product which is targeted at small and medium-sized businesses.
