State of the market
- The markets started well, but quickly slumped as banking stocks fell and profit taking began. Late in the day the market fought back and eventually posted a small gain. At 4.40pm, the S&P/ASX200 was up 7.8 points at 4562.1.
- The Aussie dollar is slightly down after to $US0.8883. Gold is up 1.76 per cent to $US1095.2 an ounce while oil has slipped to $US75 a barrel.
