Planwell to support NAI service desk solutions

Australian-owned enterprise solutions provider Planwell Technology has been appointed the sole distributor of Network Associates subsidiary Magic Solutions' service desk software solutions for Australia and New Zealand.

As part of the agreement, Planwell will look after the entire Magic Solutions customer base in Australia and New Zealand, including customers such as Boeing and others in the education, health and government sectors. It will offer marketing, pre-sales consultation, software integration and after-sales support of the Magic service desk product.

The contract is worth approximately $2 million-$3 million a year to the helpdesk solutions company, according to Matthew Barnier, Planwell's managing director.

Barnier said that Magic Solutions' products were previously distributed in the region by two sales representatives based in Sydney and Melbourne and that Network Associates was preparing to withdraw its Magic Solutions business from the region due to inadequate results. Specialising in the service desk space, Planwell had expressed interest in the Magic Solutions business and was promptly appointed to drive the business in Australia and New Zealand.

Ashley Wearne, managing director of Network Associates Australia and New Zealand, believes that this model, whereby the integrator leads the sale, is a better way of providing the service desk products to customers. "Planwell Technology has more than 10 years experience in integrating service desk solutions that help customers achieve high levels of service within their organisations, making them the ideal choice for us."

Planwell also supplies Remedy's helpdesk solution and Peregrine's service desk solutions. Although Barnier admits there is a crossover in the range of products it offers, he said they generally target different ends of the market and offer different capabilities.

He said Peregrine and its independent business unit, Remedy, which it acquired in June last year, "were a little nervous" about Planwell taking on the Magic Solutions business, but added that it's all par for the course. "We want to be a solutions provider and that means offering customers a choice of products to ensure they get the most suitable solution for their business needs."
