Simms grabs IronKey USBs

Deal represents the distributor's second new vendor partnership in a week

Simms International has upgraded its security capabilities by signing a partnership with US-based IronKey.

The vendor focuses on USB security solutions, proving user authentication, storage and mobile data protection services. Its products feature security functionality which ranges all the way up to military standard including AES 256-bit encryption. Although Simms carries a wide range of Apple and retail products, IronKey solutions are more suited to its corporate customers, Simms product marketing manager, Gavin Troxler, said.

Financial services, healthcare and local governments were identified as key areas.

Troxler said IronKey’s corporate offering complemented its other USB storage vendor, Kingston. He highlighted the ability to remotely manage IronKey enterprise devices as a differentiator.

"It's a specialist play for us that will help bolster our corporate market play," Troxler said. IronKey is also represented in Australia by New Zealand-based distributor, Duo NZ, but Troxler was unconcerned about competition between the two wholesalers.

"We do compete with certain products, but we are strong in the corporate space, with a good reseller base," he said.

Simms has had a busy start to 2010, announcing a partnership with ZAGG earlier this week, and launching its New Zealand operation.

Troxler said things should calm down for the next few months. "We're always being approached by new vendors, but we're not planning on making many more new appointments over the next six months," he said.
