State of the market

  • The markets dropped sharply in morning trading despite a strong showing from Wall St., led by banks, BHP and energy companies. At 11:46, the S&P/ASX200 was down 37.3 points at 4860.7.
  • The Aussie dollar is trading well and has risen to $US0.9303. Gold prices are slightly up to $US1144 an ounce and oil has slipped to $US79.4 a barrel.
