State of the market

  • The markets dropped sharply in early trading and continue to dance around in negative territory for the rest of the day. At close of trading, the S&P/ASX200 was down 31.4 points at 4868.1.
  • The Aussie dollar is largely steady against the US dollar and currently sells for $US0.9207. Gold prices took a hit and dropped by 1.92 per cent to $US1129.3 an ounce as oil fell to $US81.5 a barrel.
