Tech Pac kicks off roadshow

The Queensland channel will undergo possibly its biggest family reunion this week at the Tech Pacific Brisbane ExpoTech, with 900 reseller registrations already processed and more expected.

The expo is a showcase of technology and educational seminars and a way to bring vendors and resellers together, according to Fiona Stewart, ExpoTech organiser and marketing and communications manager for distributor Tech Pacific Australia.

"ExpoTech was never about just throwing our customers a great party," she says. "Rather, it's a great opportunity for resellers to speak one-on-one with the manufacturers and discuss markets to try to get a handle on what's going to happen over the next six to 12 months."

The show is divided into five areas - networking, printing and imaging, telecommunications, PCs and systems, and software. This year will also feature a Tech Pac business centre designed to gather feedback on the distributor's operational aspects and improve service to customers.

Stewart feels the SME focus offers a common target for both resellers and vendors. "ExpoTech's focus is specifically channel. This is a distributor in the channel running a show for the channel. There's no dilution because we don't have other markets, like end-users, to play up to," she says.

Tech Pac's vast range of suppliers makes it a unique host for such an extravaganza. "A reseller can come along and be confident that we'll have what they're interested in," says Stewart.

Approximately 40 of Tech Pac's 80 vendor partners will attend the Brisbane show. In a pre-marketing drive, many vendors will be bundling special offers that can only be purchased at ExpoTech.

While similar shows have fallen by the wayside, the Tech Pac Expo has grown from strength to strength. 2001 will be the first year that fully-fledged theatrette seminars will be added to the agenda. Stewart says much of the scheduling has been left up to the individual stallholders, allowing them to run presentations to their own timetable.

Brisbane is the first of nine roadshows to be held nationwide. Tech Pac will make its first foray into Hobart this year and complete the series with a run across Australia's top-end - Townsville, Cairns and Darwin.
