EMERSON LIEBERT NXL UPS PLATFORM
This new UPS system is designed for medium and large datacentre use. Developed on Emerson’s longstanding critical power protection technology, the product line supports high availability and performance. It is able to handle any input conditions while still supporting present and future computer loads with up to a 0.95 leading power factor without derating. With overload and fault-clearing capabilities, the series features colour touchscreen controls to improve user interface and reduce the risk of human error. This also provides precise regulation of system operation. For easy configuration, there are matching battery and maintenance bypass cabinets. Full front access cabinets make for quick installation and serving with the compact cabinet design requiring less floor space, the vendor claims. The first models of this on-line double-conversion UPS are available in 250kVA, 300kVA and 400kVA ratings. All Liebert NXL units can be witness tested in person or via the Internet to ensure alignment with customer requirements.

IBM SYSTEM STORAGE DS5020
The DS5020 storage disk unit provides enterprise-grade storage performance to midrange businesses in a 19-inch industry standard rack, IBM claims. It is designed for high availability and includes 8Gbps fi bre channel as well as iSCSI host capability that can be integrated into existing and new infrastructures, while providing balanced performance to satisfy the mixed workloads created by consolidation. This balanced performance also supports virtualised environments such as IBM PowerVM, Microsoft Windows 2008 Hyper-V and VMware vSphere 4 while maintaining good response times. Optional data protection with self-encryption drive technology is available. Mixed host interfaces support enables SAN tierring, while intermixing FC/ FDE/SATA drives ability enables tiered storage. The system can take up to 112 fi bre channel disk drive modules with the attachment of six EXP520 expansion units. Central management of the unit is done through IBM’s System Storage DS Storage Manager. Other functionality includes dynamic capacity expansion, IBM FlashCopy to take point-in-time copies of logical volumes, and hot-spare disk drives.

CISCO UCS 5100 SERIES BLADE SERVER CHASSIS
A datacentre platform that consolidates various aspects of computing into a cohesive single system, the UCS 5100 is a multichassis product. It integrates a low-latency, 10 Gigabit Ethernet unified network fabric with x86 architecture servers and reduces the number of network adapters, switches, cables and decreases power and cooling requirements, the vendor claims. The computing system incorporates blade servers based on Intel Xeon 5500 series processors, is six rack units high and can mount an industry-standard 19-inch rack with up to eight half-width servers. The blade servers offer patented Cisco Extended Memory Technology to support applications with large data sets and allow more virtual machines per server. Virtualisation is optimised with enhanced scalability, performance and operational control of virtual environments. The system also provides consolidated access to both SAN storage and network attached storage (NAS) over the unifi ed fabric. This means users can access storage over Ethernet, Fibre Channel, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and iSCSI all through the system.

HP RACK-MOUNT UPS R5500
Designed for dense datacentre environments, this UPS offers power density with a small form factor and weighs 73kg. To make the unit stand as a tower set-up, an optional tower conversion kit is available. The UPS R5500 meets the European restriction of hazardous substance (EU-RoHS) compliance specifi cation and has a power output of 6000VA and 5400W. Batteries are hot-swappable and their life is extended with Enhanced Battery Management (EBM). Battery runtime is also improved with Extended Runtime Modules (ERMs). The attached line cords mean easier and faster connection to a user’s systems and an attached receptable cord makes for easier EVA support, HP claims. The unit has standard DB-9 serial ports shipped with a communication cable. The R5500 can carry two load segments and features remote emergency power-off (REPO), which disables AC power to the load should there be any issues. Output protection is provided by re-settable circuit protectors. Operational temperature is between 10 Celsius to 40 Celsius.

RITTAL PMC 40 UPS SYSTEM
Based on Rittal’s double-conversion UPS technology, this system is built according to the highest classifi - cation VFI-SS-111, which provides a constant output irrespective of the incoming voltage. This is coupled with high overall efficiency and requires minimal space requirements, according to the vendor. The PMC 40 is configured as a redundant system with decentralised parallel architecture (DPA) for maximum availability. All of the UPS’ components are mounted directly in the 48.26cm level of a rack at least 80cm deep to ensure enclosure independence. The redundant version of the unit has safe-swap capabilities that allow easy module exchange while the system is operational without having to switch the UPS to bypass mode. This is, however, not available with parallel switching of several PMC 40 UPS systems. The confi gured complete system comes with basic unit and UPS module. Battery packs are supplied separately. To ensure proper operation, adequate climate control of the installed rack is required.

This new Flex Chassis switch series is aimed at enterprises. The product features line rate performance and is optimised for deployment in a department network core and access level layers of enterprise campus networks. It is designed to accommodate demanding applications and provides high level of resiliency and secure connectivity, according to the vendor. The switches can support 192 10-Gigabit ports or 640 Gigabit Ethernet ports. They also includes traffic prioritisation technologies to optimise applications and ensure constant connectivity in converged networks. Built on the Comware operating system, H3C S5800 products feature a consistent operational interface and high port density. The vendor claims the product line simplifies deployment and streamlines training to reduce operating cost. It has patented Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) technology to provide a high performance network as well as help organisations prepare for disaster and unplanned outages. IRF also enables up to eight locally distributed interconnected switches to be managed as a single entity. The product line is scaleable and can be stacked easily.
