NSC Group realigns staff to new relationships

Networking integrator claims its new Sun, Genesys and Nortel relationships are strong foundations for 2010 growth

NSC Group has confirmed two redundancies across its Business Systems Group but is hiring an additional two technical staff to realign resources around other vendor partnerships.

Managing director, Craig Neil, said the two cuts – one sales, one technical – were made to its Melbourne-based Sun team. NSC launched its Sun business in May this year, taking on 23 employees across Sydney and Melbourne.

“We didn’t have the business to justify that many people. It was about balancing our positioning,” he said.

Neil admitted Sun had been a difficult business to be in during 2009, given Oracle’s pending acquisition of the industry stalwart and the tougher economic conditions. However, he was confident NSC was building a solid division and would continue to differentiate by targeting its core call centre customer base.

“This is where a lot of our skills lie and it’s a good opportunity, but it has been slow take-up,” he said.

Alongside the Sun partnership, NSC has fostered new relationships with Nortel and Genesys during 2009. Neil said the focus for 2010 would be on getting those relationships working properly and the staff skilled up, as well as growing its Avaya business.

NSC will also continue investing in its New Zealand presence, he said.

“There’s a lot to do, but we have a great base and it’s a fantastic time for us,” Neil said. “I think we’re the only Australian partner to do Avaya and Genesys, or Nortel and Genesys.”
