Simms International has formed a partnership with iPod accessories vendor, Incipio, filling a large gap in its Apple portfolio.
The distributor had been under a lot of pressure from its reseller network to offer an accessories vendor, but difficulties in the category left Simms on a long search for the right partner, Simms managing director, Danny Moore, said.
“We’ve deliberately kept away from the category while the market sorted itself out,” he said. “Incipio understood the product lifecycles behind Apple products and how to manage it, so it is a good partner for us in this category.”
With regular iPod refreshes, managing iPod accessories successfully is a fine art, Moore said. Vendors and partners need to be able to identify the market signs to time refreshes correctly, and understand how to bundle and mark down pricing on existing lines so the channel is not stuck with unnecessary inventory.
It is a process Incipio is committed to helping with, Moore said. “They’ve been in the game a long time, so they know the approximate time a product is entering the end of its lifecycle.”
In a release, Incipio president, Andy Fathollahi, said the vendor was happy with the opportunity to work with Simms.
“I look forward to working with Simms exclusively, as they are a leading supplier of IT products and services to many of our customers,” Fathollahi stated.
