Fortinet Targets High Spam Volumes with High-Performance Message Security Solutions for Businesses and ISPs

 • 03 December, 2009 15:13

Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) – a leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions – today announced the addition of two new high-performance, high-volume security systems to its FortiMail™ family of message security appliances.

FortiMail is a multi-layered messaging security platform that provides integrated antispam, antivirus and antispyware protection without per-user or per-domain pricing restrictions. The new FortiMail-5001A and FortiMail-2000B are designed to meet the performance and volume requirements of the most demanding ISPs, government agencies, and large businesses.

The FortiMail-2000B is a rack-mountable appliance that can support up to 50,000 users in a large enterprise environment and includes two terabytes (TB) of storage, upgradeable to six TB. The FortiMail-5001A is a hardware blade designed for use in the FortiGate®-5000 Series chassis, and provides the highest message capacity of any platform in the FortiMail family.

Additionally, a new updated version of the FortiMail operating system, available on both products, provides additional messaging security and improved usability and management.

The increased performance and high message capacity of the two new FortiMail platforms mean that businesses can improve message security while achieving regulatory compliance with message archiving requirements, without slowing down communications and degrading employee productivity.

“The volume of spam and email-related threats that organisations face today can be a drain on corporate productivity and a threat to corporate security. The speed and volume at which unwanted and dangerous emails can be quarantined and disposed of is crucial to the smooth operation of enterprises and carriers/MSSPs who are providing messaging security as a service to their customers,” said Michael Xie, CTO and co-founder, Fortinet. “We developed the new high-end FortiMail systems to address the high spam volume and network performance issues for our largest customers, while providing improvements in usability for ease of deployment and management.”

Product Detail

The FortiMail family is a proven product line that recently earned Virus Bulletin’s highest level “Platinum” certification in the VBSpam Awards. FortiMail was one of only two products that achieved the platinum-level certification, given to products with a spam catch rate twice as high and a false positive rate twice as low as the average in the test.

The FortiMail-5001A chassis-based blade provides the highest message inspection rate of any platform in the FortiMail product line, 1.1 million messages per hour of full antispam/antivirus inspection. The FortiMail-5001A offers 2 times the performance of the previous-generation platform, and is able to manage 1.4 million emails per hour, with support for high availability designs, and load balancing for high-volume environments.

The FortiMail-2000B delivers enterprise-class performance in a rack-mountable form factor, supporting up to 50,000 email users, and able to manage 1.1 million emails per hour. 2 TB of storage is included, with user-upgradeable storage capability of up to 6 TB.
