Brother sponsors environmental conservation group

Portion of money made from new LED and multifunction printer range sale will go towards Earthwatch

Brother will be donating a portion of proceeds generated from sales of its new printer range to environmental conservation group, Earthwatch.

The non-profit organisation looks after scientists and PhD students engaged in conservation research around the world. Brother’s new LED and multifunction range will be involved in the sponsorship deal.

“Brother, as a good corporate citizen, needed to do something more than just provide an energy saving product; we needed to give back to the environment,” Brother marketing manager, Heidi Webster, said. “We produce goods which can sometimes end up in landfill if not recycled properly so we needed to do something beneficial to the environment – more than just saving the planet from our own product.”

This initiative builds on an existing partnership between the two groups, which started last year. Brother previously contributed direct funds to specific Earthwatch scientist. The vendor also kick-started an ongoing program where Brother sends staff, stakeholders and channel partners to specific project locations across Australia as volunteers for the scientists.

“We pay for people to go on those trips and learn about different environmental projects,” Webster said. “They get to be a scientist for a day and it also helps the researchers save money on hiring staff.”

Webster could not disclose exactly how much would be donated from each printer sale but is hopeful the total sum would be at least $50,000.

“This will better cover the cost associated with any scientists and their research, including internal costs of management, logistical support and buying much needed equipment,” she said.
