State of the market

  • The markets dropped sharply in early trading, then recovered, before slipping back in afternoon trading. The S&P/ASX200 closed down 23.5 points at 4836.4.
  • The Aussie dollar is on an upward march and sells for $US0.9264. Gold has taken a 1.32 per cent hit and is down to $US1050.6 an ounce while oil is up to $US77.6 a barrel
