Westcon has access to a wide range of Digistore products but exclusive distribution rights to the vendor’s Centurion DiscHub WorkGroup appliance and EMC Retrospect Professional for Windows software bundle. The package is geared towards small to medium businesses.
Digistore’s Australian branch has been in the business for 18 months. The AMG division’s managing director, Bijan Hoorbakht, said Digistore approached Westcon and cited the distributor as the best choice for the company. Westcon's dedicated storage team has worked with EMC for the last five years and has also represented a number of EMC’s vendor storage partners.
“We have signed a one-year distribution deal with Westcon with two-year extensions available for up to six years,” Hoorbakht said.
Westcon sales director, Leigh Howard, said the deal is part of a wider initiative to flesh out the company’s virtualisation, storage and datacentre portfolio. He said the distributor has already engaged with several other complementary vendors and are in various stages of discussion. It will be about 6-18 months before Westcon develops a comprehensive range.
Howard also has high hopes for the new product line.
“Digistore is going into heartland of the SMB market and to some extend, to channel partners in the retail space as well,” he said. “Because not traditionally an area our storage practices played in not where EMC played in either, so this bundling of Digistore and EMC Retrospect package gives us a strong bundling solution to offer up to SMB community.”
