Express Data to sell Cisco IronPort

New agreement stems from existing relationship between the vendor and distributor

Cisco has strengthened its alliance with Express Data through a new distribution deal for the vendor’s IronPort range.

IronPort, which specialises in Web security appliances, was acquired by Cisco in 2007. Prior to the new agreement with Express Data, Avnet was the sole distributor for IronPort products. The vendor approached Express Data three months ago and a deal was struck based on the distributor’s longstanding relationship with Cisco.

While Express Data’s Cisco division manager, James Mackay, conceded that the new product range does compete with existing vendor offerings such as from Symantec and M86, it complements the company’s Cisco portfolio. He predicted keen reseller interest in the IronPort addition.

“Now we can really provide a full range of Cisco products in security,” he said. “This technology is pretty impressive and now it’s backed by the Cisco brand and engine, we are going to see a lot more reseller partners coming on-board.”

In order promote the IronPort range to the channel, Express Data has lined up several reseller marketing campaigns in October. Other marketing initiatives are set to follow in the coming months.
