Protac International Computers Australia has continued its push into the white-box notebook market with the launch of the Excel ECO 731 series. Said to be manufactured by the same engineers who designed Apple's ibook, the ECO 731 is powered by an Intel Pentium 4 Processor. It can support up to 2GB of DDR memory and comes with a standard 20GB hard drive and either a 24x CD-ROM, 8x DVD or even an optional Combo drive. It features built-in input and output ports, such as USB(x4), IEEE1394, IrDA, 10/100Mbps LAN, 56K modem, S Video TV out, CRT, parallel, and 1 Type II PCMCIA slot for connectivity. Available both in 14-inch and 15-inch TFT XGA displays, the series is distributed in Australia by Protac itself with retail pricing starting at $2,549.
