Nintendo DSi gets Facebook

New functionality allows users to directly upload photos taken with either DSi camera to their Facebook profile

Nintendo DSi users now have an additional way to interact with Facebook. Photos taken from the console's camera can be directly uploaded to their Facebook profile.

The new feature was announced at this year’s E3 show, and is available via a system firmware update, which brings the console to version 1.4.

Once the user has updated the DSi’s firmware an icon will appear in the DSi’s camera album, allowing a direct upload to Facebook. Previously, users had to copy the photos to a SD card, transfer them to a computer and then perform the upload.

Users can upload up to 200 photos in one album which is automatically named Photos from Nintendo DSi. When the 201st photo is uploaded to Facebook, a new album is created.

Microsoft has announced similar services for the Xbox 360 home console, which will integrate with both Facebook and Twitter.
