NEC launches hosted managed services

New offering aimed at SMEs wanting the security of a tier 3 datacentre

NEC Australia has expanded its cloud offerings by launching a hosted managed service aimed at SMEs.

The service is designed to give smaller organisations the scalability of a hosted service combined with the data security of the Polaris datacentre in Springfield, Queensland.

NEC has acquired 500sqm within the tier 3-rated centre and fitted it out with server racks and networking equipment. Polaris is connected directly to a PIPE Networks-run dark fibre network.

Last year, NEC spent $15 million acquiring part of the centre. The company also helped build the ICT infrastructure of the city where it also has a facility.

According to a statement from NEC product manager data centres and hosted solutions, Loren Wiener, the new service would benefit businesses with a high reliance on data availability.

“Businesses in the media industry or those that rely entirely on the internet to do business, place a high value on uptime and the assurance that they can continue to operate,” he said.

Earlier this year, NEC cut 153 staff across its divisions and separated its business units.
