McAfee emails Strategic Security Summit attendees' data to all

Security vendor makes major security blunder with details of conference attendees

Security vendor, McAfee, has made a massive blunder by openly emailing the contact details of 1400 conference attendees.

In an ironic twist, the attendees were all participants in McAfee’s Strategic Security Summit held in Sydney on July 17.

In an email thanking people for attending the conference, a spreadsheet containing the details were attached.

McAfee has released a statement on the mistake, but is not commenting further.

“Due to a human error, the contact list for a seminar [held two weeks ago in Sydney] was mistakenly attached to a promotional email being sent to conference delegates,” the statement said.

The company went on to state it had prevented the email from being sent out to the entire mailing list and had requested recipients delete the offending data.

“We apologise for this error and are taking steps to ensure it doesn't happen again,” it said.
