MedQuist Reduces Costs by Allowing 1,000 Employees to Work from Home Using Mitel IP Telephony

<p>Sydney, March 7, 2006 –Mitel®, the trusted provider of IP communications, has answered MedQuist’s objective to reduce costs by making it possible for more than 1,000 employees to work from home. New Jersey-based MedQuist, a thriving medical transcription company, has selected the Mitel Teleworker Solution, Mitel Your Assistant, the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP), Mitel IP Phones, and other Mitel products that make working from home as easy and effective as being in the office.</p>
<p>MedQuist’s PBX Manager Lauren Johansson and Mitel channel partner Worldwide Telecom have played key roles in the integration of TDM and IP-based solutions. The MedQuist investment in this technology has provided employees with the tools necessary to successfully work from home. MedQuist’s goal is to streamline costs and improve customer service. “The IP system will allow us to retain the integrity of our ‘knowledge workers’ throughout the country while maintaining our employees location preference,” Johansson said.</p>
<p>“Last June, the MedQuist operations team estimated that we would realize substantial cost-savings by allowing employees to work from home as long as we gave them the tools to be effective,” she added. “We estimate that we will be in a position to dramatically reduce our costs, resulting in substantial savings in many key areas. The Teleworker Solution and Your Assistant applications, will enable us to interact with our employees, monitor their progress and maintain cohesive communications. Integration with Your Assistant gives us and our employees a virtual and visual presence and availability at all times.”</p>
<p>The deal is worth US$1.3 million.</p>
<p>Mitel provides teleworker customers the ability to pull down HTML-based reports that detail employee usage of the Teleworker Solution as an easy cost/benefit tracking tool for real-time cost savings reporting.</p>
<p>MedQuist has been a loyal Mitel customer for over 10 years, thanks in part to channel partner Worldwide Telecom of New Jersey, which has walked hand-in-hand with them over that time. <p>Mitel’s IP-based Teleworker Solution enables remote staff to seamlessly interact with the corporate office, to benefit from full business communication features including voicemail, conferencing and other features of the office telephony system increasing their productivity while reducing overall business costs. This solution uses a standard high-speed Internet connection to make a remote Mitel IP phone a secure extension off a corporate network. As an option, a Mitel Teleworker telephone can support a Line Interface Module (LIM) that allows direct connection to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for local calls, calls to emergency services and to receive incoming calls.</p>
