State of the market

  • After establishing a four-year record of seven days in a row with a positive result, morning trading was down upto 21 points due to a drop in NAB combined with a fall in US stocks and the oil price. It fought back in the afternoon and at close of trading was down just 4.4 points.
  • The Aussie dollar continues its steady growth and stands at $US0.8168. Gold has rebounded to $US953.3 an ounce. The oil price is lower at $US65.4 a barrel.

  • If you are in Sydney, the place to be is the York Theatre in the Seymour Theatre Centre, University Of Sydney, where the brilliant US outfit, The Gutter Twins - Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan with Dave Rosser, are playing a special Splendour In The Grass sideshow. Lanegan's pedigree includes The Screaming Trees and Queens Of The Stone Age while Dulli is best known for The Afghan Whigs and his current band, Twilight Singers. This acoustic-only show starts early at 8.15pm.
