Multimedia to distribute former Altech partner, EVGA

After parting ways with Altech three months ago, the graphics card vendor has teamed up with Multimedia Technology

Multimedia Technology has picked up where Altech left off, becoming the newest distributor for premium graphics card vendor, EVGA.

Altech was the first to bring the vendor’s product to Australia but stopped distributing for EVGA three months ago. Kevin Hartin, representative for Altech's marketing agent, Marketing Pro, said it was difficult to sell the product range, and cited the brand’s high-end targeted market and hefty price tag as the main reasons.

Hartin said EVGA wasn't recognised as an Nvidia board partner in Asia-Pacific, which precluded it from participating in Nvidia's rebate programs and promotions. This also made EVGA a challenging product to sell. The company signed on XFX as a replacement vendor.

Multimedia general manager, John Hassall, said the product was geared towards tier-one customers but objected to Hartin’s claim that EVGA cards were difficult to market. The new vendor would satisfy the demands for high-end graphic cards.

“The vendor deals in high performance graphics card for gaming but very few people actually understand them,” Hassall said. “We have specialist expertise in this field.”

While Multimedia also partners with competing vendor, XFX, he brushed off concerns about the two products clashing. Part of the reason Multimedia picked up EVGA was because it was struggling to get a good allocation of stock from XFX, he said.

Multimedia saw the potential for a $10 million per year revenue boost, but expects the first year of sales to garner around $5 million. EVGA’s other distributor is Mittoni, which has dealt with the vendor for over 18 months.

Mittoni CEO, Louis Mittoni, was content with the sales performance of the product line.
