Iomega has released its eGo 320GB and 500GB portable hard drives that feature both FireWire and USB compatibility.
The devices are powered by a notebook or computer’s FireWire or USB port. FireWire 400 and 800 cables are included, as well as a USB 2.0 Y cable, which allows the user to use two USB ports to power the drive.
Both units feature Iomega’s Drop Guard technology. According to the vendor, this protects the eGo from drops of up to 129cm, a distance 40 per cent higher than the industry standard.
The product is compatible with Mac and PC operating systems. It also includes a software bundle that users can download free of charge. This features three applications to protect and backup the user’s data, applications and settings.
Units come in two colours, Ruby Red and Silver. Both colours come inside a sleek aluminium enclosure slightly over 16mm thick and weights less than 200g.
Silver and Red 320GB and 500GB models are priced at $179 and $249, respectively. Both devices include a 3-year limited warranty.
