Systems integrator Bost Technologies has developed a home-grown, rapid development solution to overcome the hardware lucky-dip plaguing voice-over Internet protocol networking.
According to Bost business development manager David Wilson, the solution couples top quality wireless LAN, cordless, fourth-generation PABX and IP routing technology into a pre-configured package which can be deployed into existing or "greenfield" environments.
"One of the biggest problems facing the voice data sector at the moment is that the guys from the voice data group aren't talking to the PABX vendors and it's causing all sorts of problems at the convergence level," says Wilson.
By putting together a tailored package off-site, Bost eliminates the fuss of having five vendors working on one network while securing ownership of the whole IT project.
Wilson says the bundling boosts immediate margins as well as driving gross margins up as the number of return visits goes down. "If you've just installed a system and the customer rings up saying such-and-such isn't working, you'll often go back to find it isn't that element at all," says Wilson. "They may get five different vendors in before finding out it's a cabling glitch."
While the turnaround time from the initial pre-sales consultation is still the standard 12 weeks, Wilson believes the pre-configured option reduces the interruption to workflow. "Rather than having engineers wandering around the office we deliver something to site that is completely connectorised," he says.
