Open Text reaffirms commitment to train channel

Face-to-face and classroom training programs to be made available as vendor expects to pick up more partners through recent acquisitions


Content management vendor, Open Text, will offer partners new training options in an effort to simplify engagement with its solutions.

Over the next six months the vendor will ramp up its education programs with face-to-face and classroom style training to complement its existing online services. It will also be looking to third party education providers to offer classes.

Open Text director of channels, Chris Peterson, said it currently supported 10-15 partners, with the variable being dependant on the number of partners that migrated from recently acquired and fellow content management vendor, Red Dot.

Alphawest is the only integrator to move across to Open Text from Red Dot so far.

“With Red Dot we’re offering our partners different product streams – currently Alphawest has trained in some of our solutions,” Peterson said.

Government, which represents a substantial part of the Open Text business, continued to be a key focus for the vendors partners, he said.

“A current focus for us is helping our partners to react to the various government acts and initiatives,” he said. “A key concern for us is to change our partners' mindset from a tender focus to owning a government account.”

In other news, the vendor is planning to expand into China with the creation of a distributor and reseller model. However, Peterson said there were no plans to adopt a similar model locally.

“In the past we’ve found that a direct touch has given us a great deal of strength in the market,” he said. “As such we’ve got no plans to appoint an agency to stand between us and our reseller and customer.”

Open Text’s growth also saw it recently acquire Vignette for $310 million.
