Microsoft has been forced to introduce a 12 per cent price increase on all its products except Windows 98, Windows 98 Plus! and a select number of games titles. The price increases are expected to take effect from August 1.
The company's hand, according to Microsoft communications manager Helen Baric, was forced by the continuing poor performance of the Australian dollar.
Baric said the 12 per cent is Microsoft's first substantial price rise in two years following a small 2 to 3 per cent increase over Christmas last year.
