AMD chief to step down in 2002

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced Wednesday that its chairman and chief executive officer WJ Sanders III will step down from his position as CEO at the company shareholder's meeting in April 2002. The move was announced on a Webcast earlier in the day.

Sanders is expected to be succeeded by Hector de Ruiz, the company's current president and chief operating officer, who also serves as a member of the board. Sanders will continue to serve as chairman of the board until 2003.
