TippingPointTM Quarantine Protection Combines Attack Blocking and End Point Containment with Host Integrity and Policy Enforcement in Microsoft Network Access Protection

Sydney, Australia. – 14 February, 2006 – 3Com and its TippingPoint division today announced that its end point security solution, Quarantine Protection, will integrate with Microsoft’s Network Access Protection (NAP) to prevent malicious traffic from entering corporate networks through remote access points and spreading infection within a network. Microsoft’s Network Access Protection is an extensible, standards-based architecture that will enforce network access control and ensure compliance with security policies.

The combined solution will be demonstrated at the TippingPoint booth #823 at the 2006 RSA Conference in San Jose, USA this week. The solution is part of a secure, intelligent network architecture that will be unveiled by 3Com’s Chief Technology Officer, Marc Willebeek-LeMair, in a keynote presentation at 10:15 a.m. PST on February 16 at the McEnery Convention Center at the RSA Conference.

3Com TippingPoint Quarantine Protection, announced and available today, is an end point attack control solution that blocks malicious traffic from entering a network, and contains infected end points in an isolated area for remediation. Microsoft Network Access Protection works with 3Com’s end point security solution as the access control and policy enforcement platform, ensuring that end points are compliant with network health policies and up-to-date with anti-virus signatures, patch levels and firewall configurations.

The combined solution helps businesses secure their end points through an agentless, network-based solution, reducing the cost and administrative burden of managing multiple clients on the network. It essentially automates end point security, and ensures computers are up-to-date and safe to let on the network, while also blocking future threats.

“Customers today need solutions that block more than just viruses—they require frequent updates to protect against worms, Trojans, Denial of Service attacks, Spyware, Phishing, and VoIP threats,” said Mike Schutz, group product manager, Windows Server division at Microsoft. “Together, with industry leaders such as 3Com and its TippingPoint division, we are committed to delivering a comprehensive, end-to-end solution that protects corporate assets, controls the spread of threats and ensures policy compliance.”

3Com TippingPoint Quarantine Protection is an end point security solution that utilises TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention Systems to block attacks and the TippingPoint Security Management System to store policies and communicate with infrastructure. The switching infrastructure contains the infected devices in a quarantined area for remediation. Meanwhile, the TippingPoint Digital Vaccine® service ensures up-to-date protection.

With Microsoft’s Network Access Protection, computers are validated against security policies and given a “health” check prior to being granted access to the corporate network. Non-compliant machines can be re-directed to a quarantined virtual network until they are updated and compliant with policies.

“Microsoft Network Access Protection, in combination with 3Com TippingPoint Quarantine Protection, is yet another step in our goal to build security and intelligence into the network,” added Ken Low, Senior Manager of Security, Asia Pacific Region, 3Com Corporation. “Both solutions are standards-based to interoperate with other solutions, giving customers a complete end point security solution without requiring a forklift upgrade.”

Microsoft Network Access Protection will be available as part of the next version of Windows client and Windows Server “Longhorn.”
