Toshiba has unveiled a new rugged notebook with a 512GB solid state drive (SSD).
Weighing in at roughly 1kg, the Portégé R600 has four times the density of the next SSD integrated model and has no mechanical hard drive or internal moving parts, according to the vendor.
The Portégé R600 utilises a 2-bit-per-cell multi-level NAND flash memory at the 43nm processor generation. It facilitates lower power usage through a newly developed controller that enables high-speed parallel processing with the flash memory. This, the vendor claimed, cuts power consumption by 50 per cent while simultaneously boosting data access speeds to 200 per cent.
The Portégé R600, with included 3G mobile broadband, is available in Australia from June and will retail at $4999.
