AustStor receives carte blanche on cheque-processing hardware

Australian distributor AustStor has been appointed exclusive distributor for Italian cheque and document scanner manufacturer Seac Blanche.

Seac Blanche offers a range of scanning products designed to digitally capture and process cheque, voucher and other specialist documents.

AustStor will initially target banks and financial institutions involved in payment transaction processing with the desktop product. However Lachlan MacDonald, managing director of AustStor, claims there is a wider range of applications such as processing Cab Charge dockets or the real-time processing of feedback forms that the Seac Blanche product line can be used for.

MacDonald claims that while most companies use standard scanners for these purposes, they tend to read only designated fields and therefore require the company to retain the original document or cheque for future verification. He says the high-end RDS6000 product means banks no longer have to keep the physical cheque.

The product runs on Windows NT, 95, 98 or Me platforms, can be integrated with character recognition software and is capable of scanning up to 35 items per minute or around 5000 documents a day, says MacDonald.

AustStor has conservative expectations to move around 8000 units this year, according to MacDonald, with product now available. The fully featured RDS6000 retails for around $8000.
