Multimedia production software vendor, Avid, has appointed Scholastic Media & Technology as a distributor in a move to target a growing education market.
Avid’s solution range includes Media Composer, Pro Tools, Avid Unity, Interplay, Oxygen 8, Sibelius and Pinnacle Studio – video, music and media production tools suitable for commercial, home and education markets.
Under the partnership, Scholastic will focus on expansion of the Pinnacle product range across its national retail, independent and VAR channels, including the Mac channel.
Scholastic media technology manager, Wayne Cooper, said the opportunity exists to expand into Avid’s other product lines in the future.
“We’ve been in discussions with Avid for the past 12 months, and currently investigating further options,” Cooper said.
“We formed the partnership because we were keen to take on more design products, and felt Pinnacle was a good fit for us,” he added.
Avid sales manager, Peter Dudkowski, said Scholastic is strong in the education space; an area it had identified it wanted to focus on in future.
“There are growing opportunities in that area. In education there’s been a 25 to 30 per cent growth in licensing in multimedia software, and we expect that trend to grow even further with the government initiatives," Dudkowski said.
“Avid globally has been working on increasing its presence in education.”
Avid is also distributed by Lako Pacific. Dudkowski said that partnership would continue, with Lako continuing its work in taking Avid solutions to the consumer space.
“The two distributors will be complementary for us,” he said. “They’ll be addressing different areas and geographies and adding their own value to our solutions.”
