IT services integrator, Dimension Data, has secured a $1.2 million outsourcing deal with Xstrata Plc’s wholly owned subsidiary, Xstrata Technology.
The contract, spanning two years with an option to extend to five years, will see the integrator partially upgrade and provide level 2, 3 and 4 services support for Xstrata Technology’s communications infrastructure.
Dimension Data was awarded the deal through previous engagements with Xstrata Technology.
“We officially signed the contract in February but we started doing some consulting work for Xstrata Technology about 12 months ago,” Dimension Data national solutions director, Dave D’Aprano, said. “Instead of doing a single big outsource and let another company take over all the assets, Xstrata Technology wanted control of the architecture and our services aligned with their needs.”
D’Aprano said the contract highlighted a trend shift in the way organisations outsourced.
“This shows that customers want more control over the way services are delivered,” he said. “Xstrata, like a lot for other companies, wanted a greater hand in defining in the operation of services and took a lot of interest in the resourcing and skill sets that we provided.”
Dimension Data will be taking over from Xstrata’s former outsourcing partner, CSC.
