Lan 1 gets virtual Reflex

Distributor to begin offering its first virtual appliance targeting VMware and security resellers

Lan 1 has signed a distribution deal with virtualisation management and security vendor, Reflex Systems.

Under the agreement the distributor will supply security and VMware resellers with Reflex’s virtualisation management centre (VMC ) and virtual security appliance (VSA).

The deal stems from Lan 1’s acquisition of Blue Sky Industries last year.

Lan 1 IP security business manager, Christo Simeonoff, said it was the first time the distributor had a virtual appliance offering as part of its vendor portfolio.

“We believe it’s the right product for the right time,” he said. “It’s a virtual appliance and its a full firewall, UTM and malware engine that can be deployed in a virtual network and it can effectively be one-tenth of the cost of a UTM appliance.”

The distributor will target markets with users that have more than five, and up to thousands of VMware physical servers.

“There are a number of large organisations using this including government and financial bodies. It also allows PCI compliance in a virtual world,” he said.

Simeonoff anticipated the new vendor would add $6 million to the distributor’s bottom line over the next 12 months.

Lan 1 will be bundling professional services with the virtual appliance to help resellers come up to speed.

In a statement, Reflex vice-president of sales, Preston Futrell, said it chose Lan 1 because of its location of pre- and post-sales engineers around Australia and its ability to offer four-hour rapid replacement and support.
