Storage Industry body to offer Australian New Zealand IT users access to education, training, standards development and events pertaining to storage networking

<p>SNIA ANZ gets full support from USA headquarters to assist in the rapid adoption of standards for storage architectures</p>
<p>Sydney, Australia – December 4, 2003 - The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) ANZ held their launch event in Sydney today with presentations from USA chair Ms Sheila Childs and the local board members on advances in storage networking.</p>
<p>“As a vendor-neutral trade organisation, the SNIA works in conjunction with its members to make storage networking technologies understandable, simpler to implement, easier to mange, and recognised as valued assets to the business process,” Ms Childs explained.</p>
<p>Ms Childs reviewed the charter and mission of the SNIA worldwide and updated all on recent developments with SNIA’s work in developing the Storage Management Initiative (SMI), a standard expected to be adopted by most vendors mid next year ensuring interoperability and unified management.</p>
<p>Also discussed were the SMI road map, the various vendor and the user forums run by SNIA including the end user advisory panel. Developments with the Storage Networking World (SNW) event run bi annually in the USA, and now in China and Europe and hopefully Australia next year were reviewed by Ms Childs.</p>
<p>“I congratulate SNIA ANZ founding members and board for the huge effort they have put behind their formation in Australia and New Zealand,” Ms Childs concluded.</p>
<p>Mark Heers, chairman of SNIA ANZ presented an overview of the local plans with special attention on education, training and events. “All of our 18 members are dedicated to helping end users better understand the top IT issues, Storage Management, Interoperability and TCO. We are confident we have developed local initiatives to address them via our programs with SNIA ANZ.”</p>
<p>Leading analyst, Dr Kevin McIsaac of META Group, added: “With Storage Area Networks becoming a common part of IT infrastructure it is important that the SNIA succeeds with its goal of standards, interoperability and education. I envisage a local chapter will be of great assistance to storage users in delivering on these.”</p>
