Alcatel last week held a race day for partners at Oran Park Raceway in Sydney's south-west as the culmination of a channel incentive program. A dozen high-performing resellers were treated to the opportunity of driving race-prepared cars on a racetrack.
Competitors were let loose in three Lotus race cars under the tuition and guidance of seasoned national sports touring car driver Mark Williams, who runs a corporate drive day business out of Oran Park called Track Time.
After a briefing from Williams, drivers were divided into three teams and each team member was given five timed sessions on the track throughout the course of the day. Points were accumulated based on consistency of lap times, which all drivers managed to bring down substantially during the course of the day.
No major accidents were recorded although a certain Alcatel country manager, who shall remain nameless, did manage to spin off the track on at least two occasions (but only because he was trying so hard).
In the end, it was the "Oranges and Lemons" team that won the day ahead of "Black Monday" and "Green with Envy".
Telstra's Brett McCracken, from the victorious Orange team, scored the fastest lap time. ARN editor Gerard Norsa, also from Orange, insisted we don't mention that it was he who scored the most points (as well as the second-fastest lap time).
A great day was had by all and Alcatel have promised that they will be running a similar promotion next year.
