PC maker Acer announced Friday plans to lay off more than 300 employees. Together with 500 job cuts announced last week, the layoffs amount to 8 per cent of the company's workforce in Taiwan.
The latest cuts include workers from the company's main Taiwan manufacturing facility in Hsinchu as well as in Hsichih, where its headquarters are located, Acer said in a statement.
In total, the layoffs are expected to save Acer between $US19 million and $22 million a year, the company said.
Most of the 500 layoffs announced last week were Filipino workers whose two-year contracts had run out.
