ATI knocks out cablers

Networking vendor Allied Telesyn (ATI) has teamed up with distributor Anixter to launch the first of this year's product promotions, offering cablers and resellers savings of around 30 per cent in one of ATI's most popular product lines.

Dubbed the Knockout promotion, ATI is offering the discount on its media converter range until the end of March.

While cablers make up the majority of Allied Telesyn's customer base, the line between the cabling industry and the traditional reseller is becoming increasingly blurred as trends move more into the services arena, explained ATI's Anne Collins.

"As cablers expand their business, they are not only going into networking products, they need basic media products and services. Increasingly they are getting involved in solutions and this is a promotion to launch that," the first of a number that will run throughout the year. The next will focus on engineering resellers, according to the company.

The ATI media converter range converts fibre to unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and ATI has found the product has become increasingly popular.

"Cablers are finding opportunities for this sort of work. It is a core product for us -- it's our bread and butter and what we started with.

"It allows them to have fibre as the backbone and they can stack up to 12 chassis. To buy a fibre switch is expensive so they can buy a copper switch and deploy the chassis and it is a very cost-effective solution," Collins said.

The promotion will offer savings of around 30 per cent on the product, she added.
