As reported by ARN (see ARN April 29, page 1), Ingram Micro will make its first foray into the Australian distribution market via its affiliate Electronic Resources Australia with a range of Compaq products.
The announcement follows months of secret, behind-closed-door meetings between Ingram and ERA officials and the cream of Australia's vendors headed by Compaq.
Since the beginning of this year, Ingram has been strengthening its channel presence in conjunction with ERA. In May, Ingram and ERA launched Ingram's internally designed IMpulse online distribution system with grand plans to conduct $1 million in business by year's end.
The Compaq announcement conveniently comes at a time when the company is finalising its channel strategies, of which distribution will be a key issue.
