- Companies team to consolidate information across business units and address the regulatory compliance concerns of the healthcare industry

Sydney, AUSTRALIA - March 24, 2004 - Agfa, a leader in digital imaging solutions for the healthcare market, and Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi. Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today announced a global agreement where Agfa will resell Hitachi storage systems and services to healthcare providers. This powerful combination will allow healthcare providers to create patient-centric information systems that consolidate data across business units.

“The collaboration between Agfa and Hitachi Data Systems is another example of Agfa’s commitment to provide to our customers a broader range of integrated technologies,” commented Michael Green, Vice President Global Marketing, Agfa HealthCare. “By teaming with leading technology providers like Hitachi Data Systems, Agfa is able to provide streamlined access to integrated solutions.”

The worldwide healthcare sector is undergoing an unprecedented technological transformation that is changing the face of patient care as well as the way health sites are managed. CIO’s are faced with an exponentially growing volume of patient information, and the need to implement Customer Relationship Management systems as well as comply with various regulatory requirements. The result is ever-escalating data storage demands which necessitate a new approach for melding IT and medical applications.

As the needs of the global healthcare industry evolve, including cost control and legislative requirements for image and information management and protection, the collaboration between Agfa and Hitachi Data Systems can offer added choice to those hospitals seeking to deploy an integrated PACS/storage strategy.

“Hitachi Data Systems is pleased to team with Agfa to deliver tailored PACS/storage solutions and services that will not only streamline the delivery of health care, but also help provide a rapid return on investment,” said Michael Cremen, General Manager of Hitachi Data Systems in Australia and New Zealand. “Moving forward, we look to deliver a full data life cycle management strategy that will enable healthcare providers to deploy a multi-tier storage architecture which matches the value of data to the cost of storage.”
