Handheld channel sales soared in May - up 35 per cent up on April figures, according to Inform. The analyst predicts June will have also reached record levels. Preliminary figures from the retail sector alone indicate more than a 20 per cent increase on May.
The market is likely to see a small readjustment in July, said Luke Solyom, Inform's chief research analyst for handheld devices, but the upward trend should continue.
He said as more wireless-enabled devices are launched, the channel will see a shift in sales from the mid-range arena to higher priced models.
