Avaya optimises maintenance revenue through data quality centre of excellence using Informatica data quality

Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the leading independent provider of data integration software and services, today announced that Avaya, a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, is leveraging a Center of Excellence for Enterprise Data Quality and Informatica’s data integration platform, including Informatica Data Quality (IDQ) and Informatica Data Explorer (IDE), to enable its Maintenance Revenue Optimisation program.

“As with any business function, complete, accurate and timely data is a fundamental requirement for optimal performance,” said Rich Trapp, director of global data quality, Avaya. “Using Informatica within our Data Quality Center of Excellence has helped ensure an accurate, comprehensive view of customer asset and billing information. This led to improving revenue from our maintenance services. To date, we’ve seen a return on our investment from this program over 2,000 percent.”

Operational Efficiencies Achieved Through Improved Data Quality:

Avaya’s formal data quality process entails using Informatica PowerCenter to integrate data of questionable, defective or unproven quality into the center’s data warehouse – Avaya’s third largest after its production databases – where quality issues can be analysed, segmented and prioritised for remediation. IDE profiles the data upfront to gain an understanding of data structures, completeness and frequency of use, and to jumpstart the creation of business rules that govern the quality of specific data. These rules are harvested in collaboration with data stewards, subject matter experts, key users and other business stakeholders.

Using IDQ within the Data Quality Center of Excellence, Avaya can address essential data quality tasks such as de-duplication and address standardisation to better prepare the data for defect identification and analysis. Avaya also uses IDQ to drive improvement in other areas such as duplicate identification and standardisation, proper assignment of tax codes, and overall master data management.

“In the current challenging economy, companies of all sizes need to find ways to operate efficiently and to optimise the use of information assets, thus strengthening the business processes that depend on those assets, from sales and customer care to billing,” said Ivan Chong, general manager, Data Quality Business Unit, Informatica. “Avaya illustrates the enormous impact that improved data quality can have on both the top and bottom lines, and shows how business-driven data quality efforts can are essential in order to achieve efficiency in business process.”
